There’s a reason why this Summer outdoor timeframe is so coveted. Each year, during Golden Hour, when Mother Nature allows, I try and shoot as many sessions as I can. The Golden Hour Light Season is short y’all! Whether it’s boudoir, engagement, or family, it’s the most desired outdoor session I offer.
Here’s a few examples of why, and I beg you to tell me I’m wrong.

Besides my Mommy & Me minis that are held every year on Mother’s Day weekend in the studio, outdoor family sessions are my favourite. If you have littles, it’s a great way to keep their focus. You may think running around outside is the opposite of focus, but when it’s time to snap, they just always fall in line. ha! it’s a gift I posses I suppose. Not a lot of bribing from mom or dad during our time out back.
Go With The Flow
I only put a few outdoor family sessions on the books each Summer. Mother Nature is always involved in the planning. So when booking, I always stress the need for flexibility. If you really want that Golden Hour light that is so desired, then you gotta be able to go with the flow.

When the time is right for you to update your family portraits (you’re probably thinking what year was our last photo together? and I don’t mean on your phone) consider joining me out the back field during Golden Hour for the quickest, sweetest time together. Even the most reluctant family member always has a good time.
