Emotional Preparation

Of course, talking about what to wear is an important part of preparing for your boudoir experience, but so is making space for the emotions that might surface. Whether you’re feeling excited, nervous, vulnerable, or a little bit of everything, preparing emotionally will look different for everyone. You might find yourself thinking about your body, your confidence (whether it’s enough), your insecurities or what it means to do something just for yourself. And that’s okay. You don’t have to arrive feeling completely confident. You just have to show up as you are. Just like every other step of your preparation, I encourage you to give yourself some grace, and know that I’m here to support you through it all. You don’t have to navigate those feelings alone.

Managing expectations

I’m here to capture you as you are, now. It’s not about editing you slimmer or younger. I pride myself on the little editing that I do. Makeup and hair and a wardrobe that makes you feel comfortable with your body right now is key. I do not have a magic wand or a magic camera. But, if you trust the process, keep an open mind and be present and in tune with your body, you’ll see that’s when the magic happens. So release any expectations of looking like someone else. YOU are worthy just the way you are.

Meet me halfway

I can guide you, encourage you, hype you up, help you pose, and remind you just how incredible you are. I can create a space where you feel safe and free to be yourself. But here’s the thing: I can only do so much. At some point, you have to meet me halfway. You have to be willing to let go a little, trust the process, try the pose that feels a bit awkward, and allow yourself to be seen. You don’t have to walk into my studio bursting with confidence (most women don’t!). You just have to be open to the possibility that there’s more to you than you’ve been allowing yourself to see. I’ll bring the guidance, the encouragement, and probably a few ridiculous jokes along the way. All I ask is that you bring a little willingness to show up for yourself. We can do some pretty incredible things together from there.

Choose the right photographer

You can do all the other steps perfectly, but choosing the right boudoir photographer is about so much more than finding someone whose photos you love. Of course, you want to love their work, but you also want to connect with the person behind the camera. You’re going to be vulnerable, maybe a little nervous, and probably doing something that feels completely outside your comfort zone. So, you want someone you feel comfortable with and who gets you. Every photographer has their own style, approach, and vibe, and that’s a good thing! We’re not all meant to be the right fit for everyone. Find someone whose work speaks to you and whose energy feels right. Because this experience is about YOU, and you deserve to feel comfortable, supported, and excited about the person who’s going to be cheering you on from behind the camera!
